Lion City 2005

Lion City 2005!! Its like THE major dancesport event of the year in Singapore!! This year, Lion City 2005 is tasked to hold the finals of the Grand Slam series. Its a series of dancesport competitions held over a few countries, I think 6 or 7 countries. Its basically a competition of the world's top ranking couples. From what I understand, this finals is by invitation only.. meaning u have to be one of the top ranking couples to be able to even join this competition!! I would dare to say u can miss all the dancesport competitions in Singapore, but u can't miss this!! If you're interested in dancesport, that is...

As usual, we have all the other events like the Grade D, C, A events, as well as the junior events. These are interesting events, good to look at.. but.. these are the appetizer only. The main course is the Grand Slam event. Dancesport is split into 2 categories, the Standard and the Latin. I was very excited after watching the Grade A events, and very inspired. However, when the Grand Slam event started, my jaws dropped!

World ranking couples are really very different from normal competitors! They can do all the cool moves and make it such that it looks so easy and so natural... They even look like they're just fooling around, and playing with the audience! Whenever the couples come out and start competing, I was like.. wah... wah.... and wah.... they look so elegant and beautiful in Standard, passionate and full of energy in Latin. I especially looked out for Maurizio, who's my idol in Latin dancing. He's so cheeky and energy-filled, in his choreography as well as his facial expression! The funniest part is the last part, after all the competitions is over. The last event is the Grand Slam Latin. After the competitors finished their last dance, they formed a line and ran towards the audience on one side to bow. Then they turn and ran towards the other end to bow. And you know what Maurizio did? He limped all the way as though he injured his leg.. limping with his right leg, and dragging his left.. it was so funny!! haha..

Haiz.. really enjoyed this event, haven't felt this way for a few years. Think it'll be a long time before I can enjoy a Dancesport competition like this again!
